If i started a new game with my character in Mass effect two will his original actions carry over?

Looking forward to mass effect 3 when it comes out but i'm wandering something. I completed the game and i liked how i did. Everyone survived but Miranda and half of the crew died. Even though that's not the best ending, that's what happened to me. I also chose to be Paragon. I Restarted the game and thought about being renegade, but i just kind of stopped playing after i started the new game. Will my Shepard be a Paragon adept who did his best to save his crew and the universe. Or will i be a rookie renegade who was recently retrieved from a crash?
